Essentials for Concept Development
Posted by fibi on November 3, 2006
aspects to focus on:
Expression and Experience
[the need to express oneself] x N(# of ppl) ==========> a fun/interesting/creative experience & a sense of belonging
……………………………………create something together in the process
Things to bear in mind:
relevancy to mobile computing & shared content
the rationale of the concept should be grounded by field studies or research paper

Concept #4 – Playlisting developed through social network
Posted by rogr on November 3, 2006
Focusing on creating a set of music created through the what a network of peers are listening to at the same time.
Depending on what position in your social network one person (direct connection, secondary non-personal connection etc) have different kinds of influence of you.

Concept #2: Collaborative Sound Creation through Motion Tracking
Posted by k3id on November 3, 2006
Could be set up in e.g. a bar. When moving, people create sounds. When more people within the tracking area move, they can create sound (music) together. This whole installation could also be rather sublte.
notes: (fibi)
I think this is an interesting project by itself, but i see the danger of its departure from mobile computing and shared content theme.

Concept #3 – Collecting pieces
Posted by rogr on November 3, 2006
Main idea of the concept is to create a experience similar to that of collecting car number plates (in which you search for them in the city). Pieces of a song is distributed through the city and you are supposed to collect it all together. You may socialize with other by comparison of what you’ve got, giving hints or tips etc.
Keywords:
Asynchronous
Distributed location

Concept #1 – Game of music/life
Posted by rogr on November 3, 2006
This concept build on the idea of and environment/eco-system with a set of rules that creates music in a specific location.
The users may either place instruments/sound-samples in the eco-system or they are actors themselves that move around the space and act upon the rules to create sound through their mobile devices (can be sound clips, finished songs).
Key words:
Synchronous or asynchronous
Same or distributed location
details:(fibi)
in order to create a shared experience and a sense of belonging, there should be a common goal for users to achieve in this eco system.
the goals can be:
- to keep something alive, for ex, the tamaguchi thing in japan but a group thing instead,
- to keep something going(non-stop),
- to create something nice to see/listen, for ex. a public display, music playing in the public, the water fountains,
- to make something happen, for ex. the naked girl
- anything else?
the process can be:
- a collaborative effort
- a democrative process of voting
- random
p.s. i think setting up the rules with connections to music yet meaningful and interesting is the difficult part; different rules associations create different type of social interactions in this group setting
